Meet a Campus Tour Guide: Julianys Soto

LCCC_JunlianysCampus tour guide Julianys Soto offers something special to future students and parents at Lorain County Community College. She is about to begin giving bilingual tours of the campus to connect with Spanish speaking students and parents.

As someone who quickly learned English three years ago after growing up in Puerto Rico, her unique skills allow visitors a chance to fully understand all the school has to offer, including parents who may have limited English speaking abilities.

Today Soto is a health care student and freshman at LCCC who is excited to begin her work as a tour guide.

“I know the best part will be being able to help those who do not understand English,” Soto said. “I will help them the same way others helped me when I got here. This will be the best satisfaction ever.”

Non-English speaking parents will then be able to help their kids make the best decision for college, she said.

Soto, 19, moved to Ohio in the middle of her sophomore year of high school, but her ESL teachers helped a lot.

Originally, Soto heard about LCCC’s ESL program from her teacher at Lorain schools.

Today she lives in Lorain, where she graduated from high school, with her family. She plans to become a medical assistant.
